April is North Carolina Second Chance Month
LINC staff and board are celebrating the first North Carolina Second Chance Month with a series of emails, events, podcasts, and publications. Eyes on the Law, LINC’s initiative to explore social justice topics, will be releasing a Reentry Month special publication including topics such as “What is Reentry?: The importance and challenges of reentry,” “The key pillars of successful reentry,” “How can successful reentry be supported?,” “Current Barriers to Reentry,” and “Reentry Resources.” This will be available online at Eyes on the Law, so bookmark and watch this space. |
We have a NEW YouTube Channel! To mark Second Chance month, we will be uploading a series of videos from our series “LINC Talks: Reclaiming Resiliency.” The talks are live throughout April (see the calendar below), and selected recordings will be available online in May. Visit LINC’s YouTube today and hit that “Subscribe” button so you are the first to hear about new content. |
Local Reentry Council Celebrates New
Program Space
The Local Reentry Council – New Hanover County at LINC, Inc. has moved into office space at The Harrelson Center. On May 1, staff at the newly appointed office will hold an Open House to showcase the expanded presence of reentry programs and services.
We request that guests RSVP to Linda Thomas at lthomas@lincnc.org.
Every Gift Helps a Reentering Individual
New residents at the M.E.R. Transitional Living Campus often arrive with nothing but the clothes they are wearing. LINC staff provide new clothing, linens for their new bed, and personal hygiene products. These essentials help communicate our most basic message, “You are valued. You deserve a second chance.” You can help keep the M.E.R. closet full for residents by shopping on Amazon from the LINC wishlist, and having items delivered directly to the campus. Thank you, as always, for your generosity. |
Items of Note | Announcements and Updates
LINC has a number of board positions to fill this year as current board members’ terms expire. If you are interested in serving the community by sharing your skills, please email board Chair Ashley Wells for an application.
- The 10th Annual LINC Milestones dinner was a huge success! Almost 250 guests enjoyed the ambiance of Daniels Hall at CFCC, beautiful mocktails from Mr. Bartender, On Thyme’s soul food, a tower of tempting desserts from Sweet D’s, and a moving program. Keynote Speaker Kurtis Taylor shared his personal story of a reentry and success over substance misuse disorder.
We appreciate everyone who supported the evening and acknowledge the generosity of the evening sponsors, attendees, and donors. Revisit the evening’s program.
