LINC and other partners of Port City United showed up at New Hanover County Board of Commissioners Meeting on June 3 in support of the organization’s work in our communities and schools, and in opposition to defunding the initiative. We shared powerful testimony. LINC’s collaboration with Port City United has been through the L.I.T.E. Manhood Community Resource Coordinator and Community Health Worker initiatives. LINC Executive Director Frankie Roberts and LINC/NC Fit Community Health Worker Demond Wells (shown above, speaking) emphasized the positive interventions that occur when community members are engaged in support services. See the recorded meeting on YouTube, starting at 1:04. LINC in Motion with Dance Iquail: Public Enemy
MER in Motion: Dance Iquail & Public Enemy
A project in partnership with Dance Iquail, from Philadelphia, and LINC Inc., and MER Division Drive residents was a week in workshops with Dr. Iquail Shaheed and their normal group therapist, discussing their experiences in the Criminal Justice system. The participants worked to express those experiences through art-making. Participants from MER were paid to work alongside Dance Iquail and the CFCC Wilson Center staff to put on a performance in the second half of the Dance Iquail show.
The audience will be seated onstage in this immersive performance. This project is grant funded.
LINC is finalizing its nominations for new board members to replace those board members with expiring terms.
