LINC Receives Initial Approval on the Fire-Station-to-Boarding-School Conversion Project
LINC’s plans to convert the decommissioned fire station at Princess Place Drive to a group home for at-risk youth move forward with the unanimous approval from Wilmington Planning Commission to rezone the property to an office and institutional district. It is currently zoned residential.
Next steps include final rezoning approval from the Wilmington City Council and the securing of a special use permit.
LINC leadership envision renovating the fire station to accommodate a boarding school tailored to young Black men who have dropped out of traditional schools. A 14-month program would allow participants to earn a GED, a Cape Fear Community College certificate, trade skills, and general life skills.
Participants will be referred to the boarding school by the court system, local service organizations, or family members.
